About

Two people, one slow habit

Slow Lens is an independent journal about travelling slowly and paying attention — written in Edinburgh, put together on a kitchen table.

We’re Clara Linde and Tom Ashby. Clara writes most of the stories; Tom does most of the picture editing and argues about sequencing. We started Slow Lens in November 2024, after a decade of trips that were always too short, with a simple rule for ourselves: stay long enough in a place to get bored of it, and then stay a bit longer.

Every journal story here comes from a trip we actually made, usually a week or more in one area, often out of season. We write about what it felt like to be there — the weather, the walking, the buses that didn’t come — rather than lists of things to see.

About the photographs

We both carry cameras, but the pictures on this site are mostly not ours. Some of the best travel photography in the world is published by its authors under open licences, and we think it deserves to be seen large, well sequenced and properly credited. So each gallery and story is illustrated with photographs chosen from that open archive — 571 frames by 107 photographers so far.

Every photograph is credited on its own page, together with its licence and a link to the original source. Because those licences allow it, you can download every image at full resolution. If you reuse one, credit the photographer as shown — that’s all the licence asks.

What you’ll find here

  • The journal — 24 long-form stories, from Lisbon to Patagonia.
  • Galleries — 12 edited sequences of 25 to 50 photographs each.
  • Film — short, quiet edits made from the photographs.
  • Gear notes — what we carry, and what the photographers in the archive use.

Prints

Prints are coming soon. We’re working on a small run of archival prints from a handful of photographers who have said yes to it. There’s nothing to buy yet, and we won’t take pre-orders; if you’d like a note when it’s ready, drop us a line.

What we don’t do

No ads, no sponsored trips, no affiliate links, no tracking. This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If a place or a product is mentioned, it’s because we liked it (or didn’t).
